EU pig exports have increased in the first quarter of 2019.

 

The latest data published by the European Commission shows how exports of pork from the EU have increased by 9.2% during the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of the previous year, with a total of 1,110. 499 tons. The significant increase in exports to Vietnam stands out, which have increased by 90%, with 23,093 tons sent to this Asian country, also affected by African swine fever. China continues as the main destination with 454,216 t, totaling 41% of total exports, and an increase of 26% over the same quarter of 2018. The five main destinations are China (40.9% of the total), Japan (10.8%). South Korea (7.4%), the Philippines (6.9%) and Hong Kong (5.4%). The EU remains the world's leading exporter of pork and pork products, increasing with respect to the passing year, while the United States, which remains in second place, has suffered a slight decrease.
